Heart of Glory

September 15, 2011 Albany, Georgia

1 Nephi 2:16  I Nephi, having great desires to know of the mysteries of God, wherefore I did cry unto the Lord (cry= to show great need or desire) behold, He did visit me and did soften my heart (my desires) that I did believe all the words which my father had spoken.

FTM- I need to pray with full desire to God and He will answer me AND He will help me gain greater desire for the welfare of all and for His Glory.

1 Nephi 2:18-19  Laman and Lemuel would not hearken to my words; and being grieved because of the hardness of their hearts (stubbornness of their wills), I cried unto the Lord for them. 19. Blessed art thou, Nephi because of thy faith, because thou hast sought me diligently, with lowliness of heart (a humble and submissive will).

FTM- Pray for everyone, no matter if they listen to you or not. I must pray so, diligently, and for all men, all my brothers and sisters.

1 Nephi 3:12, 24  When Nephi and his brothers made their desires known to Laban, he would not answer them but desired their property and did lust after it. One example of a heart of darkness.

1 Nephi 4:10 I was constrained by the Spirit that I should kill Laban; but I said in my heart (my will) Never at any time have I shed the blood of man. And I shrunk and (I willed) would that I might not slay him. (I did not desire to slay him or any man ever.)

FTM- Just like Nephi, I need to not fear what man may do in response to what the Spirit prompts me to do or to say. Trust Father and He will ensure His will is accomplished as He hath spoken it. God cannot lie! Desire is a strong thing and it can influence others. God’s desire is greatest of all!

Heart of Light

September 14, 2011 Albany, Georgia

1 Nephi 1:5 Lehi prays with all his heart in behalf of his people. (Lehi prays with all desire for the welfare of his people). After such a willing, charitable show of faith, the Lord answers his prayer in like manner to Joseph Smith’s prayer. Now, Lehi casts himself on his bed, being “overcome”. This references over to Alma 27:17 where Ammon’s joy was full to the exhausting of his strength. So, Lehi is overcome by joy, or the Glory of God!

1 Nephi 1:14 Lehi saw many great and marvelous things and then he begins to give great praises to God, because of the things which he saw (which is mostly not recorded here in the text).

1 Nephi 1:15 His whole heart was filled because of the things which the Lord had shown him. Looking at the dictionary on filled, it says “satisfied, to complete by supplying, to make larger.” So, essentially, Lehi’s desires which he prayed for were satisfied AND made larger by the Lord.

FTM- I cannot imagine things too glorious for Eternal Life, more likely, I can barely begin to imagine even the smallest portion. This much I do know, I desire Eternal Life far more than flight. Flight was the earliest form, to me, of Eternal Life, but the Lord has shown me through His Prophets and His Spirit so much more, flight is barely the beginning!

FTM- Immediately after having received this marvelous vision, having his desire magnified, he was now prepared and since his desire was the Glory of God, he went forth to share this with everyone. He was duty bound by command to do so, true, but this was part of his desire. You cannot desire Eternal Life and not have a desire to share this desire with others. (I will pray for the same, and work more whole-heatedly towards it!)

Lehi now knew the voice of the Lord, and the source and way to Eternal Life and so God’s command to leave makes sense. Lehi proved that he was willing to sell all for the Treasure he found in the field of pondering and searching. His household and monetary inheritance was nothing to him in comparison to the wonderful inheritance of Celestial Glory.

Heart of Hearts

A poem I wrote June 27, 2012 while serving in Jay, Florida

O Thou heart of my heart, wilt thou flee from all uncleanness?

Awake and flee from false desires, trust in My Refiner’s Fires.

The heart that beats at the heart of the universe is Love,

And by His heart He can change mine to Love.

The Natural Man is more terrible than The Flood.

Once killed is not dead enough, for it always will exhume,

And like The Flood, it seeks only to consume.

An appetite of gross desires, bourne of him, the father of liars.

But within me is the power and will to remove, and the true Heart of my heart prove.

Even the shadow of a dark corner can regrow into a great monster.

And how fleeting a thought is the shadow of a dark corner.

How quietly deceptive is the whisper of a single spore,

But, as proven, a single spore can consume an entire planet!

And corrupt even the heart of hearts into miserable oblivion..

But, I have felt to sing the Song of Redeeming Love! And I feel so now.

There is a Redeemer sent down from above. His heart of hearts will never fail,

and if I trust in Him, my mind will be firm forever.

The natural man will always try to revitalize but you may purge yourself

as often as you will from ALL corrupt desire.

I love The Lord! It is by His might and mercy I am sanctified.

Repentance is a Principle of Intelligence

2 Nephi 12:3 (Isaiah 2:3,5) Let us go up to the mountain of the Lord… he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths.

vs. 5 Come ye and let us walk in the light of the Lord.

By faith, we experiment to find intelligence. Once found, we must act and follow the intelligence we have received. This is repentance, making changes so as to come closer to God. Those who repent, continue on this path to greater light and knowledge or intelligence.

Doctrine and Covenants 1:33 (Doctrine and Covenants 93:39) Those who repent not shall lose the light (intelligence) received.

By repentance (coupled with baptism) we are cleansed from the corrupted intelligences and hold fast to the light. This is the path to exaltation or receiving of all intelligence as The Father has.

Just like in Alvin Maker, by Orson Scott Card, when he “baptizes” his friend, the black boy, to wash away the marker, the way that “Satan” recognizes and searches for him. All impurities were washed away with this “baptism”. Hence our sins are washed away with baptism.

Fasting is also a principle of intelligence. By fasting, we are helping our bodies and spirits to re-align with the Savior. The fasting process opens us up to using the chemicals and intelligences (this ability is provided through the Saviors atonement) to remove some bonds and strengthen others, just as fasting re-freshens and purifies my system. It is important then, while fasting, to have heart and mind focused on Godly things and to allow all other thoughts to fade out of thought.
