I have always loved and been fascinated by Lehi’s dream of the Tree of Life in 1 Nephi 8. Even more fascinating to me was the fact that Nephi desired and was blessed with the same dream and an explanation of the meaning of the dream, 1 Nephi 11.
1 Nephi 10:17-22 Accounts Nephi’s desire to know and his faith in God and the principle of revelation. That God would reveal the same things to any man who diligently asks Him.
These verses have inspired many over the years to pray and ask to receive the same dream Lehi and Nephi did. I know this has been something I have done many times. I testify that He answered my prayers! It definitely wasn’t in the way I expected (thinking in my mind that I would have the same dream), but the way He answered has become more profound to me with time and reflection.
I knew that if I were to ask the Lord for a dream or vision, I better show my desire for it by studying what He had already given me through the Scriptures and the Prophets. I spent most of February 2012 studying Lehi’s Dream and Nephi’s vision in far greater depth (those findings will be more fully treated elsewhere). It appears that around May 30 I transitioned from titling the pages Nephi’s Vision to titling the pages The Vision. I don’t know why I dont have the full notes of May 29, but that is when I was led to a very important truth.
1 Nephi 22 Nephi explains what Isaiah was speaking of in the chapters he just read to them. All of the things Isaiah spoke of related to the things that Nephi saw in his vision.
Nephi then explains in 1 Nephi 22:31 Ye need not suppose that I and my father are the only ones who have testified and also taught them.
Nephi was proving to his brothers that he and his father were not crazy for having dreams and visions, that the exact same things they saw, had been shown and testified of by Isaiah.
In reading this verse and 3 Nephi 23:1-3 I began to realize that all of the visions and dreams of all the prophets are part of one great whole, The Vision of Everything. Thus, I began titling pages of this topic The Vision.
Every Prophet has seen parts or all of The Vision, and each has written parts of it. Very few have been privileged to write all of it, and their words are sealed up at this time. John the Beloved was the only one privileged to detail the events in Revelation, although many others saw the same things he did. Each Prophet is also shown in imagery that is powerful to them and the people they are speaking to, thus some of the visions are speaking of the same exact things but with different imagery. The Vision is essentially The Plan of Salvation in greater depth, detailing the events from before the world was, through each dispensation or seal, with the bulk of information being what is happening now and what is yet to happen in the near future, into the Second Coming and Millenium.
I will separate The Vision into parts:
The 6th and 7th Seals I further divided into 5 parts:
The Second Coming and Millenial Reign
