(Feb.-Mar. 2011 – Niceville, Florida)
What it is
Sound judgement, quick perception. Using knowledge to act quickly and well. Goes along the Path with Temperance and Patience. Listening to what God tells you or counsels you to do. Apply understanding=be wise.
What it does
Leads one to choose correct choices and to learn how to act not only from previous choices of self but from those of others. Leads me to keep the commandments of God. Leads me to recognize God’s wisdom in others. Helps me understand the absolute necessity of the Atonement and all things God gives. 2 Nephi 2:5-7 speaks of the Atonement and how only those with a contrite heart and broken spirit will have a fullness of mercy. How to act appropriately (in other words as Christ would) in every situation. Essentially WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) is a reminder to exercise His wisdom.
How to obtain
Discuss with the Spirit different scenarios. Study different possible choices and outcomes. Decide which choice is best. Act when the scenario presents itself. Gain knowledge on how the Lord tells us to act in the scriptures. Be righteous and just. If you keep the commandments of God, then He will always lead you aright even in a split second when you dont have time to consider the options.
2 Nephi 9:29 To be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God. (Wisdom is in hearkening to Him)
Mosiah 2:17 I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom, when ye are in the service of your fellow beings you are only in the service of your God. Wisdom will always action that leads to blessing of others.
Mosiah 12:27 Ye have not applied your hearts to understanding, ye have not been wise. (We must not try not to understand. Choosing to ignore questions and study will never help us receive wisdom. Assuming we know all of the meanings of a scripture is also opposed to wisdom)
2 Nephi 28:30 Those who hearken to the Lord’s counsel shall learn wisdom.
Alma 37:6 The Lord works by small means and doth confound the wise. (His wisdom is far greater than those who think they are wise)
Alma 37:35 Learn wisdom in thy youth, learn to keep the commandments of God. (Thus we see that serving others is a commandment of God as this scriptural statement is interchangeable with Mosiah 2:17)
Helaman 15:16 I will cause in the day of my wisdom, they shall return again unto me. (Times of wisdom are when great knowledge is restored to benefit us, restorations. The Lord exercises His infinite wisdom in the timing of every event in every life.)
2 Nephi 2:24 All things have been done in the wisdom of Him who knoweth all things. (Even the fall of Adam and Eve was part of His wisdom)
3 Nephi 21:4 It is wisdom in the Father that they (the Gentiles, or us today) should be established in this land (America) and be set up as a free people by the power of the Father, that (thus) these things (The Book of Mormon) might come forth from them unto the remnant of your seed (offspring of ancient Native Americans, possibly the various Southern and Meso-American peoples), that the Abrahamic Covenant may be fulfilled.
3 Nephi 21:8 Kings (Doctrine and Covenants 101:94 wise men and rulers) shall shut their mouths for that which had not been told them shall they see. (Through the Spirit we may hear and know that (the Gospel) which we never would have considered on our own)
3 Nephi 21:10 I will heal him (Joseph Smith who was martyred but the work continued, or John Taylor who was wounded with four shots and recovered?) for I will show unto them that my wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil.
Mormon 9:31 Be thankful the Lord hath manifested unto you our (the Nephites and Lamanites) imperfections, that ye may learn to be more wise than we have been. (That you may not make the same mistakes as us and destroy yourselves)
Alma 32:20 Of this thing ye must judge. (Alma asks a question just before this and then he provides the way to know the truth; through wisdom. Ye must judge by the Spirit. He just invited the Spirit to answer and anyone who is truly listening to the Spirit must judge according to the truth.
