What it is
Clear perception, learning, information, facts, certainty of understanding. Endowed with understanding and reasoning faculty. The ability to gain more knowledge, the gift is to do so by the Holy Ghost and revelation.
What it does
Allows me to gain greater light and intelligence. Is the receiving of revelations. Revelation= knowledge of God. Allows me to progress in capacities and abilities. Learn from experiences for yourself and others. Have a witness after the trial of your faith.
How to obtain
Study things, ask questions of others and of the Spirit. A principle of science, and the 3rd Step on The Path. First is faith (a hypothesis, a desire for greater knowledge), next is virtue or applying a hypothesis to an experiment (works/repentance), next is Knowledge or harvesting the fruits of your labors. Without virtue, the fruits are corrupt and flawed. With virtue distilling you and your hypothesis, the knowledge or intelligences you gain are pure and Godly. Knowledge is information you receive from the hypothesis and the experiment of faith and virtue, respectively. Harden not your heart, ask in faith, believe ye shall receive, and diligently keep the commandments.
1 Nephi 15:11 If ye harden not your hearts, ask me in faith, believing ye shall receive, and diligently keep my commandments; then these things Shall be made known to you.
1 Nephi 22:2 By the spirit are all things made known.
2 Nephi 9:29 To be learned is good, if they hearken to the counsels of God.
Jacob 4:8 No man knoweth of His ways save it be revealed unto Him.
Alma 36:4 I do not know of myself of the temporal, but of God.
Alma 36:26 Because of the word, many do know these things as I know. The knowledge which I have is of God.
