What It Is Hope for things not seen (known) but that are true. The first principle of the Doctrine of Christ. This hope leads to action and the two together are faith. Faith needs to be in Jesus Christ to have any lasting effect. It is to believe He is your Savior and that nothing is impossible for His power to accomplish, especially believing that through Christ I can attain Celestial Glory or Eternal Life. Pondering is an act of faith.
What It Does Allows us to begin along the path to Eternal Life. Faith is necessary for repentance. When we have faith it allows The Lord to do all things according to His will for us. It is through faith that miracles are performed. It sanctifies those who have it until they are pure and white like the Savior. Faith strengthens and is strengthened by Charity.
How To Obtain Alma’s scientific experiment! (Alma 32) Begin with a desire to believe (have an open mind) and listen to/read the words of God. If it is the word of God it will begin to swell within your breast. It will begin to enlarge your soul (bring you greater love for others), enlighten your understanding (bring knowledge and inspiration), and it will begin to be delicious (you will enjoy it). Then you will know you have faith. You must then nourish faith with great care by praying for more, reading and studying, and acting on the new things you find.
