Gifts of the Spirit

Articles of Faith 1:7

Spiritual gifts are given to us to benefit us and others around us. From the Doctrine and Covenants we learn that everyone has at least one gift (I believe no matter what Church or belief one may be a part of).

11 For all have not every agift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God.

Doctrine and Covenants 46:11-33

It appears that we may continue to receive these gifts at special occasions during our life (such as baptism, blessings, patriarchal blessing, priesthood ordination, etc.) but usually we must seek after them by study and prayer (and would not any of those occasions warrant study and prayer if we are to be properly prepared for them?). There are three places in the scriptures that create a sort of list of some spiritual gifts. One of the lists is found above, the other two are: Moroni 10:17-25  and 1 Corinthians 14

From my daily planner and journal entries, it appears I began to study individual Gifts of the Spirit on November 19, 2010 while in Niceville, Florida. I remember grabbing a fresh copy of The Book of Mormon and listing every gift of the Spirit I could find. I then used a different color to highlight or underline each one. Elder Call gave me the whole idea, stating it was a suggestion that every missionary grab a fresh copy of the Book of Mormon and have a specific purpose for it. Elder Call also had the idea of making cases out of old macaroni boxes and duct tape. (Silver is the best color!) I then decided to go through the Book of Mormon looking for one gift of the Spirit each time and highlighting references to it. This page will link to pages for each gift of the Spirit, those pages will be updated by posts.

What is the difference between an endowment of the Holy Ghost and a Gift of the Holy Ghost?
